AMD to Acquire Xilinx

AMD will acquire FPGA maker Xilinx in an all-stock transaction valued at US $35 billion. According to the announcement, the combination will create the industry’s leading high performance computing company.

The key reasons for the acquisition are believed to lie in Xilinx’s adaptive computing solutions for the data center market.
