Beta Version of AlmaLinux Now Available

A beta version of AlmaLinux, the open source fork of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) built by CloudLinux, is now available for download.

Launched with the code-name Project Lenix in response to Red Hat’s decision to shift focus away from CentOS Linux to CentOS Stream, AlmaLinux is a 1:1 binary compatible fork of RHEL 8.

AlmaLinux is a stable, enterprise-grade server OS that will offer regular releases with long support windows. According to the website, AlmaLinux promises the following benefits:

  • Rapid switch from CentOS to AlmaLinux – with one command.
  • Zero migration downtime, even for large server fleets.
  • Free and open source with no licenses or usage restrictions.
  • Owned and governed in partnership with the community.
