InformationWeek has released its 2020 IT Salary Survey, providing insight into IT salaries and industry demographics at the end of 2020 and beginning of 2021.
The survey affirms the fact the IT industry remains overwhelmingly male, with the following breakdown:
- 85% Male
- 12% Female
- 1% Non-binary
- 3% Preferred not to answer
Additionally, the industry remains mostly white, with the breakdown as follows:
- 71% White
- 9% Asian
- 4% Black/African American
- 3% Hispanic/ Latino
- 1% Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander
- 1% American Indian/Alaska Native
- 4% Other
- 7% Preferred not to answer
The survey also showed that the gender wage gap has increased to $20,000 (up from a $15,0000 gap in the 2019 survey).
In 2020, the median total compensation for an IT pro was $120,000, compared to a median of $110,000 in 2019. However, the survey states that only 48% of IT pros saw their compensation increase in 2020 (down from 71% in 2019). In the same survey period, 16% of respondents had their pay frozen, and 10% experienced pay cuts.
