IBM Cloud Offers Quantum-Safe Cryptography Services

IBM announced new cloud services and technologies to protect existing data in the cloud and prepare for potential threats associated with advances in quantum computing.

The new services and support include:

  • Quantum Safe Cryptography Support: This service uses open source standards and technology to improve the methods used to transmit data between enterprise and cloud and to secure data using a quantum-safe algorithm.
  • Extended IBM Cloud Hyper Protect Crypto Services: This includes a single-tenant Key Management Service and a Cloud Hardware Security Module Service, offering encryption key protection with “Keep Your Own Key” (KYOK) capability.

According to the announcement, the new services are part of IBM’s strategic agenda to protect the long-term security of its platforms and services and mitigate potential risks of quantum computing, such as the ability to quickly break encryption algorithms and access sensitive data.
