LFPH Launches Global COVID Certificate Network

Linux Foundation Public Health (LFPH) has launched the Global COVID Certificate Network (GCCN), to “facilitate the safe and free movement of individuals globally during the COVID pandemic.”

According to the blog post by Brian Behlendorf, “GCCN will include a global directory of trust registries to enable cross-border certificate verification and be a home for toolkits and community-managed support for those building and managing COVID certificate systems.”

The GCCN plans to work with “governments and industry alliances, software vendors and systems integrators, supporting organizations, and the broader LFPH community” to jointly develop:

  • Global trust registry network and trust registry protocol
  • COVID certificates implementation toolkit
  • Vendor ecosystem

Participation is open to government agencies looking to launch a COVID certificate ecosystem for border reopening, implementers of existing COVID certificate ecosystems, developers who want to contribute to the reference implementations, vendors, supporters, and more.
