NASA’s Ingenuity Helicopter Runs Linux on Mars

Like other NASA rovers, the Perseverance rover that landed last week on Mars runs on Wind River’s VxWorks RTOS. Tucked underneath the SUV-sized rover, however, is a semi-autonomous mini-helicopter named Ingenuity that runs Linux, reports Eric Brown. 

Tim Canham, Mars Helicopter Operations Lead at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), provided details of Ingenuity’s Mars mission in an interview with IEEE Spectrum.
