An MIT research team has developed a low-cost, open source mobile pollution detector to help people to more easily measure air quality, reports Peter Dizikes.
The Flatburn device can be made by 3D printing or by ordering inexpensive parts, and the researchers provide complete instructions for the tool’s use along with “guidance for working with officials, communities, and stakeholders to process the results and attempt to shape action,” Dizikes says.
