Recognizing International Day of the Girl

October 11 is International Day of the Girl Child, which serves to highlight the gender gap in digital connectivity, device use, skills, and jobs and spur action to bridge this growing divide.

According to the statement from the United Nations, the global internet user gender gap has grown “from 11 percent in 2013 to 17 percent in 2019,” and the gap is even wider in the world’s least developed countries.

And, “globally, the percentage of females among Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) graduates is below 15 percent in over two-thirds of countries,” the statement says.

Here at FOSSlife, we stand with this global effort and aim to remove barriers to learning and “widen the pathways” so that all girls -- regardless of race, gender, language, ability, economic status and geographic origin -- can effectively pursue their goals.
