Doing More with Less, Or Why FOSS Is Recession-Proof

Drupal founder Dries Buytaert is convinced that free and open source software (FOSS) is recession-proof. And, in a recent episode of The New Stack Makers podcast, he explains why.

In the podcast, Buytaert states that recessions are good for open source, partly because open source costs less and partly because of its distributed nature. With a distributed taskforce and fewer centralized expenses, open source projects may be less likely to suffer financially than their proprietary counterparts.

“FOSS allows you to do more with less,” Buytaert says, and it “allows you to be more in control of your destiny.”
